David Wu's new ads
Today, I got to participate in a very exciting political event--the filming of a political ad. I must admit that this was a first for me. Though I've been involved in politics for quite some time and have been a part of a number of campaigns, this was indeed the first time I've been featured in a political ad (even if it was only as an extra).
Around noon today, I headed down to the Freightliner headquarters in Portland, Oregon for the filming of a series of ads for Congressman David Wu (my representative). While hundreds of Oregonians worked to build some of the finest trucks in the world, the producers filmed a series of great shots of union workers. I didn't happen to see any of the Congressman's speech for the ad, though I got the opportunity to speak with him afterwards (he was impressed with my familiarity with the Democratic Caucus in the House and general politcal knowledge).
Even more interesting were the conversations I had with a number of the members of his campaign staff (15 in the Portland office alone). Although they are confident in their candidate's chances at winning reelection (it is a district Al Gore won by more than 7 points in 2000) and his fundraising prowess (he had $1,547,431 on hand as of June 30, according to PoliticalMoneyLine.com), they are concerned with Goli Ameri's ability to bring in significant funds. What is more, they were worried that the rosy 3 to 1 cash on hand advantage Wu held last month is surely less now after a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser held by Dick Cheney last month, which reportedly brought in $200,000 for the Ameri campaign.
If you're looking to donate money to an inportant House campaign in a swing state that will spend almost every cent raised, David Wu is your man. What is more, if you want to contibute to a campaign that will not only help the Democrats win back the House but also aid John Kerry's chances at winning the White House come November, you should strongly consider giving to Wu. For more information on the race, you can read my earlier post on Wu's chances.
