No big shocker: Kerry up big in NY, RI
SurveyUSA has just finished polling in New York and Rhode Island and here are the results:

- In an election for president in New York state today, John Kerry defeats George W Bush 55% to 39%, according to SurveyUSA poll of 582 likely voters 9/18 + 9/19 + 9/20.
- Kerry leads 3:1 in NYC. Bush leads by 4 in NYC suburbs. The two tie upstate.
- Kerry leads by 43 in urban areas. Bush leads by 7 in suburban NY, by 12 in rural NY.
- Bush leads by 2 among whites, trails 7:2 among Hispanics, trails 17:1 among blacks.
- Kerry leads by 32 pts among youngest voters, but leads by only 2 among oldest voters.
- Bush holds 80% of GOP base; 17% cross-over to vote Kerry. Kerry holds 81% of Democrat base; 13% cross-over to vote Bush. Independents break 3:2 for Kerry.
- In an election for president in Rhode Island today, John Kerry defeats George W Bush 55% to 37%, according to SurveyUSA poll of 705 likely voters conducted 9/18 - 9/20.
- Though Kerry leads in Rhode Island by 18, he is running 11 pts behind Al Gore, who carried the state in 2000 by 29 pts.
- Conservatives & pro-life voters back Bush. But all other demographic groups back Kerry, including: men & women, young & old, whites & non-whites, most educated & least educated, union & non-union, military & non-military, religious & less religious, affluent & less affluent, urban & suburban. 12% of Republicans cross-over to Kerry; 9% of Democrats cross-over to Bush. Indys break 8:7 for Kerry.
