This is reassuring

The AP's Mark Sherman reports:

The private companies that process health claims for Medicare made nearly $20 billion in erroneous or questionable payments last year, an error rate of 9.3 percent, the government said Monday. The performance was a slight improvement over last year [emphasis added].
Private companies' mistakes are costing the government $20,000,000,000 this year, and that's better than last year. If that's the case, then why are we paying them???
