This is Why We're Paying Hundreds of Billions?

It's been almost two months since I've cited a story in The Washington Times, but every once and a while they hit on something worth noting on this site. In this case, we turn to an article written by Stephen Dinan.

The federal government will spend nearly $2 billion in the next decade on male impotence drugs under its Medicare program, according to a new cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office that is fueling some lawmakers' efforts to end that spending.
Funding for Medicare is in shambles. The crisis facing the program is significantly worse than the problems facing Social Security. The prescription drug benefit has only exacerbated the problem. So clearly, it's time to figure out a way to begin restraining the massive deficit in the program. One way is to begin paying fair prices for the prescription drugs instead of allowing the pharmaceutical industry to gouge consumers and the government with excessive surchages. Another might be to cut back on some types of drugs...
