Lott's Meager Fundraising Draws Questions
For some time, the inside-the-Beltway crowd has discussed the possibility that former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS) might not seek another term next year. Over at The Fix, Chris Cillizza briefly touches on this discussion.
Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) raised just $27,000 in individual contributions from July 1 to Sept. 30, a total sure to restart retirement rumors.Perhaps the pundits shouldn't read too much into Lott's paltry second quarter numbers; after all, the Senator's coffers still contain more than $1.2 million. That said, were Lott indeed to retire, Mississippi would house one of the most competitive races of the cycle, with Democratic Rep. Gene Taylor or state Attorney General Mike Moore (D) squaring off against Rep. Chip Pickering (R).
